Michael Deeley — Director
Michael became a director of Emulsion in 2009, and his creative vision and dedication to innovative and sustainable technical design were honed at acclaimed practices such as Waugh Thistleton and Urban Research Laboratory, leveraging his background in engineering and architecture. He also worked on the redevelopment of Gatwick Airport whilst at Fitch, and on the successful London 2012 Olympic bid as part of the pre-construction consultancy team at Mace, solving the deliverability, indicating the design constraints and construction difficulties of major projects and the phased programme of construction.
He applies his attention to detail and technical expertise to architectural and interior design projects across various sectors. In recent years, Michael has been working closely with exacting brands on detail-oriented store implementation projects UK-wide to demanding specifications and timelines with often complex site coordination, including working within the Grade I Listed Royal Opera House Arcade. His experience spans all stages of a project, covering feasibility, concept, detailed and technical design right through to close involvement in fabrication and construction through to project completion and handover.
Michael also led a self-initiated urban development project for Emulsion, transforming an existing building into three new homes, taking an ‘adapt and re-use’ approach which afforded the development a BREEAM excellent rating whilst using materials which referenced the industrial heritage of the local area, Walworth.
He is a keen enthusiast for mid-C20th brutalist architecture and classic cars, enjoys urban gardening, vinyl music, snowboarding, kite-surfing, and riding his Moto Guzzi motorcycle around London.
